Finding parking in DC is not the easiest so we had a bit of a walk over to the mall (but we did find free parking so totally worth it).

On our walk over we went to the Martin Luther King Memorial. Neither Darl or I had seen it. There is a quote at the monument that talks about being a "stone of hope cut out of a mountain of despair." I think that is the idea behind the monument:

We saw a sleeping duck on the way. I thought it was kind of funny:

Cherry blossoms behind us:

We walked around part of the Tidal Basin. The Jefferson Monument is in the background:

Darl putting together our kite, in front of the Washington Monument:

In the middle of the picture, in the distance you can see Darl and the kite:

We spread out a blanket and Abigail crawled to the edge and played with the grass for a few minutes. She must have decided grass was okay because than she took off crawling away from us as fast as she could. I went and walked by her and she was laughing and so happy. At one point she put her face in the grass. She had a great time.

And, of course, she had to taste it. I am so not a fan of the "I have to put EVERYTHING in my mouth" stage.

Abigail crawled over to her cousin Lane and had fun playing with him:

I know, SO MANY pictures of her but can you blame me? So cute:)

Darl and our niece Morgan got our kite going pretty high:

This picture shows some of the kites that were being flown. People bring huge ones, make their own, it is pretty fun.

This picture shows how much fun we had because Abigail is not typically a cuddly baby, but she is when she is tired. She fell asleep almost as soon as we put her in the stroller for the walk back to the car:
